It is a pleasure to listen the whole interview.
I agree with everything said by the great Gedda almost 30 years ago, Today things are even worst with the stage directors.

@fabrizzzio48 Well. Keep in mind this interview was nearly 30 years ago. The music was a little different then. Certain great operas have been written since. John Adams, and William Bolcolm are great opera composers.

Hartelijk bedankt voor dit interessante interview.

Janja, I thoroughly enjoyed that 20 minutes - and could listen to him for another hour. There is nothing about Gedda that I don't admire greatly. I also liked the way the interviewer did not interrupt the flow. Everding wants to speak more than his guests and gets on my nerves.

The woman interviewer is an idiot. He just told her why modern composers are wrong, they don't respect the singer's voice. Sure, they want to be famous and successful and have their thing performed, but they don't give a hoot if the singer suffers.
She says, the world is in turmoil...
that opera should express this...
Well, stupid composers are part of the turmoil, and intelligent performers like Gedda are the antidote for stupid composers, stupid stage directors and stupid interviewers.
