GARY LUCAS: PART 8 LIVE IN ST. PETERSBURG; SKIF FESTIVAL, 4/25/04
On April 25th 2004, Gary Lucas, "one of the best and most original guitarists in America" (Rolling Stone) performed solo at the 6th Annual Sergey Kuryokhin International Festival of the Arts in St. Petersburg, his fourth trip to Russia. Gary took the stage at 1am after an introduction by his friend noted avant-guitarist Henry Kaiser, and proceeded to play his heart out, as documented here by local fan Nick Kuznetsov. This set stands as one of Gary's finest solo guitar perfomances ever, with the 3 customary Lucas road guitars ('66 Fender Strat, '46 Gibson J-45, and '28 National steel) in full effect.
Here Gary delivers a definitive electric version of "Amazing Grace",
and finishes out his medley and the concert itself with a wild
rendition of "It's Like a Wheel", from his Tzadik album "Street of
Lost Album"...after which Gary is observed signing autographs for all
his Russian fans.
it's a disguised version of Amazing Grace right?? Either way it's fucking awesome
