In something like 95% of cases, cops attack protesters just because they're protesting. It's not about personal interactions between cops & protesters. Then, cop apologists such as Captain Lewis turn around and blame it all on the 5% of protesters who perhaps do say a few unkind words to cops. It's true that a cop is objectively a worker, but he/she is subjectively an agent of state repression. That's why many soldiers join protesters in Arab countries, but very few cops.

The trouble with conspiracy theory is that it's a cover for a right-wing agenda. In that sense, there is a conspiracy within conspiracy theory. In reality, conspiracy buffs are just tea partiers in disguise. That's why a progressive movement should be wary of them.

Sorry to come in on your exchange, but I think it can well be a case of both. Yes, Marx's critique of class society was spot on but, just as revolutionaries started to organise in conspiratorial cliques (Lenin was proud of this, he only wanted full-time Party activists to qualify as members - the rest could be supporters), the ruling class also organises itself in conspiratorial organisations.

This doesn't negate the class analysis of society, it's just the details of how it works.

police provocateurs throw gas on a small fire. "creating a public disturbance" protestors are apart of the public. peace? how is using violence solving a "breach of peace"? resisting arrests that could be deemed unconstitutional. furthermore, i refuse to follow laws that inhibit personal liberty and are unconstitutional. the constitution is a guideline to me. so, just because a few "laws" burn it up, doesn't mean i am a criminal for not following them. either i'm free in the mind, or not at all.
