In my opinion, a tear-invoking, heart-warming Bhajan, about a girl who is sweetly compared to Radha. A must-hear for all who love Bhajans! Jai Shri Krishna.

Transliteration. (Sorry if some words appear childish.)
A sylph plays in my courtyard,
A sylph plays in my courtyard,
A sylph plays in my courtyard,
A sylph plays in my courtyard,
Anklets ringing around her legs,
Making a "jham jhama jham" sound.
A sylph plays in my courtyard.
A sylph plays in my courtyard.

I asked her, "what is your name?"
I asked her, "what is your name?"
I asked her, "what is your name?"
I asked her, "what is your name?"
I asked her, "what is your name?"
I asked her, "what is your name?"
Laughing merrily and heartily, to me she said,
Laughing merrily and heartily, to me she said, "Radha is my name."
A sylph plays in my courtyard.
A sylph plays in my courtyard.

I asked her, "where do you come from?"
I asked her, "where do you come from?"
I asked her, "where do you come from?"
I asked her, "where do you come from?"
Sweetly, and sugarly, she said,
Sweetly, and sugarly, she said, "Barsano is where I come from."
Sweetly, and sugarly, she said, "Barsano is where I come from."
A sylph plays in my courtyard.
A sylph plays in my courtyard.

I asked her, "where are your in-laws?"
I asked her, "where are your in-laws?"
I asked her, "where are your in-laws?"
I asked her, "where are your in-laws?"
Blushing, she said unto me,
Blushing, she said unto me, "Nand gaav is the place of my in laws."
A sylph plays in my courtyard.
A sylph plays in my courtyard.

I asked her, "who is your husband?"
I asked her, "who is your husband?"
I asked her, "who is your husband?"
I asked her, "who is your husband?"
Smiling, she said unto me,
Smiling, she said unto me, "Shyaam is my husband."
A sylph plays in my courtyard.
A sylph plays in my courtyard.

I asked her, "will you eat some cream?"
I asked her, "will you eat some cream?"
I asked her, "will you eat some cream?"
I asked her, "will you eat some cream?"
"Yes, oh yes," saying so,
"Yes, oh yes," saying so, she danced (swerved/swung/played) around me.
A sylph plays in my courtyard.
A sylph plays in my courtyard.

Moon's friend, praying to Child-Krishna's portrait,
Moon's friend, praying to Child-Krishna's portrait,
Showing up in my dreams, she speaks softly to me.
Showing up in my dreams, she speaks softly to me.
A sylph plays in my courtyard.
A sylph plays in my courtyard.

Ankelts ringing in her legs,
with the sound of jham jhama jham,
Ankelts ringing in her legs,
with the sound of jham jhama jham,
Choti si Kishori plays in my courtyard.
Choti si Kishori plays in my courtyard.
O, Choti si Kishori plays in my courtyard.
Choti si Kishori plays in my courtyard.

  • All righty, then. I've tried my best and posted the transliteration in the description area. I'll check to see time and again if I can come up with something better.

    Haribol!

  • oh my god! You made a vieo with this song! I LOVE this bhajan! Thank you sooo much! I only wish I knew the translation for this...if you have it, could you post it up?

Beautiful video! That picture alone is exquisite.

  • w, thank you so much. I did want to put the lyrics up, but was lazy. You give me an incentive to put up the lyrics, and I thank you for that; as also "Sorry Krsna, I won't be lazy in your matters again!" I'll start uploading the other Bhajans too, and add lyrics to this one as soon as I can. (The translation would be mine as I know of no one who has attempted to translate this in English. Pardon me for the poor job I might do.) Hare Krsna!

  • Lol, thanks. I just google the images. Yes, it is difficult to top the first one. Hopefully I'll continue to give some more good ones. Jai Shri Krishna.
