** UPDATE (5/21/10)** CLASSY, STATE FARM! EVEN THOUGH WE DID ALL THE LEG WORK IN ORDER TO GET THE DRIVER'S INSURANCE TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE INSTEAD OF OUR OWN INSURANCE. STATE FARM DID NOT RENEW OUR POLICY BECAUSE THIS COUNTED AS AN INCIDENT AGAINST US. Q: HOW MUCH DID THIS COST STATE FARM IN ORDER FOR IT TO COUNT AS AN INCIDENT? A: $11, SERIOUSLY.


On Sunday, October 11, 2009 at about 2:45am, a dark silver station wagon or hatchback (possible plate: UNB52C or UMB52C, maybe a saturn) that was parked in front of the Barge Inn in Downtown Jersey City, NJ plowed into my car, pushing it up onto the sidewalk cracking the axle and totaling my car.

According to my neighbor, he heard the crash, ran outside to see the driver's side of the car empty with a girl somewhat passed out in the passenger's seat. A man ran from the Barge Inn screaming at her, got into the driver's side and pulled away immediately. Neighbors on the scene saw the the license plate: UNB52C or UMB52C.

New Jersey, have you seen a car matching this description?

i gotta go through the same thing pretty much . some dumb drunk swiped the side of my car coming home from work and took off, the cops caught the guy and now have to go to a case hearing, all coming out my my pocket as far as my insurance goes, no clue whether he had it or not (prob not) do insurance companies give you back your deductable and go after people, or does it come out of the other guys money to you?

@STreeMonkey sorry to hear that! if you go to the police station and ask for the accident report, it should have the offenders insurance info on there. You can either contact their insurance directly or have your insurance company contact them. We ended up having our own insurance company handle it, because his was trying to cut corners and screw us out of repairs. If they don't have insurance, you will be able to sue them for the cost of repairs. Good luck!

well, it is FINALLY over! I got the check refunding our rental car from the hit and run driver's insurance company and I got the deductible back from my insurance company yesterday! Aside from the hours upon hours of detective work and online promotion, we didn't lose any of our money! I just want to thank all of you for giving this the views it needed to inspire the police into doing their job!

I don't get what happened... the car turned and smashed into his car, but then someone ran and jumped in and drove away? Who was driving before that happened?

the passenger hopped into the drivers seat to repark the vehicle while the driver was inside. they didn't do a good job.

what I don't know is why can't it be found by searching the partial plate UN or UM with a the color and possible style of car? anyone able to shine some light on that?

I can kinda tell by the shape of the door when he opened it, the slant of the back hatch, and the headlights look kinda round when the car gets close to the CAM4 logo in the top left... the side features look very simular to a BMW 540i Wagon...search that on google images and look at the first pic. :)
