Neurologist Jacqueline Carter, M.D., stroke specialist at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, KY, uses the acronym F.A.S.T. to outline the symptoms of stroke:
F=Face (Try to smile; does one side droop?)
A=Arm (Raise both arms. Does one drift down?)
S=Speech (Repeat a simple phrase. Is speech slurred?)
T=Time (If you have any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately.)
