Just finished the new book about Affirmed by Lou Sahadi- READ it.
It was very well written, and it gave me a new level of respect for Affirmed & Alydar.

@Webuiltthepyramids ......Alydar had every chance in the world to go by him....it's not like he was 5 wide.....now, if Alydar had ever switched leads what might have happened?

Poor Alydar. He was on the outside. He had farther to run. Had their positions been switched, there would have been no Triple Crown that year.

Probably Cauthen's best ride. Amazing how he kept those early fractions so slow so he'd have enough horse for the stretch run.

I have been wanting to hear Chic's call at the end of this race forever; also, it's great how the mics picked up the crowd noise as the two joined battle. What a fantastic spectacle! Thank you, my friend!

Sure thing. Yes, the crowd noise was a nice bonus, and the CBS camera angle was different as well. Mr. Anderson sure was an awesome caller, he's greatly missed.
