This large Oregon White Oak, Quercus garryana, that failed in the mid-May 2010 wind storm. The tree failed at a large bark inclusion, landing on the roof, breaking the eave, and punturing the roof in 3 places.
An anchor point was used on the roof for the attachment of a lifeline for the arborist. Brush and limbs were carefully removed and dropped of the roof with no rolling or other destabilizing of the large piece. This is important so that the arborist can not be trapped or crushed by the large tree trunk, as well as to avoid any greater damage to the structure.
The remaining log was lifted carefully from the roof and set on the ground for processing using a truck-mounted knuckleboom crane.
