Moving to a new country is difficult in itself. Learning to communicate in a new language can present another challenge, but once overcome can make your experience in your new country much more enjoyable. Slovak is the official language of the Slovak Republic. It is closely related to the Polish and Ukrainian languages and is mutually intelligible with the Czech language. With the difficult grammar and pronunciation, Slovak is a hard language to master, but learning simple phrases and numbers will improve your integration into local life.

  • I'm from the UK and learning Slovak. It's mainly difficult because of the complicated grammar and soft phonemes (as opposed to my native English). However, it is rich with beautiful metaphors and wry humour, and learning it will also introduce you to bits and pieces from other Slavic languages. Moja slovenctina je este velmi zla, skoda, ale som rad ze sa to ucim takze mozem hovorit' trochu ked' som tam a nie byt ignorantny clovek, ktory len povie: "You speak English?" Slovensko, milujem ta :D

  • i am from slovakia and it is a very very hard language. Its gonna take you a long time.

  • I live in UK and i'm from slovakia. I can't believe, that someone in UK learn slovak(my) language. I learn 2years british english and i really like it ;] Don't worry about the alphabet, is same like english only there is not "CH" and words like "ščřžýáíé" and more.. Good Luck

  • Can i just say that i am a native Slovakian speaker, but unfortunately i forgot about 50% of the language because at the age of 8 i came to England where English became my everyday language and as the years past by i used more English and less Slovakian. And now i am more fluent, though not perfect in English language then i am in the Slovakian language. So now i decided o s start to relearn the language from scratch and i TELL YOU, ITS HARD!

  • fourty WHAT letters of the alphabet??!

  • @Funnykaplanaa yes they are similar, i have experience with both.

  • ja viem ja som slovak slovensko do to ho

  • @Slovakcitizen1 No it's not hard.

  • @razoodocks Slovensko miluje teba :)

  • I've been learning Slovak for just over a month now (I'm from New Zealand) but it's quite a challenging language. Still, I must learn it or I won't be able to talk to the Slovaks. Myslim že, možno buduci rok budem hovoriť po Slovensky lepšie. :)
