@safarigurl150 I think you're right. Marilyn did cause a bit of hullabaloo on the set. I know Mitzi nor Ethel were too fond of her. But her leading man, Donald O'Connor, never said anything unkind about her. He was too much of a gentleman to ever insult one of his leading ladies. He never did.

you know, looking at ur comments, i actually forgot why i wrote what i did. it was becuz Ethel apparently hated Marilyn - i made an argument siding with Marilyn strictly based on looks (in that department, Marilyn wins). But Ethel was im sure a great star singer etc.....she may have not been pretty but she had personality was intelligent and lovable. and dunno why she hated marilyn (maybe becuz marilyn was always late and a little distracted) but i like them both and may they RIP

@safarigurl150 Of course, I'm not slamming Marilyn. She was gorgeous and will forever be an icon. But, I get a bit defnsive when it comes to Ethel. I quite like her. (Besides, Ethel wasn't jealous, I don't think. I believe Mairlyn was actually a bit intimidated by her, from what I've heard.)

@safarigurl150 Ethel Merman wasn't ugly. By this time, she was in her late 40's and Marilyn was in her early 30's, I think. And I personally think that Ethel was quite pretty when she was younger.

@amscia the song is April In Portugal. It was a big hit mid 50's. There are many versions of it...Vic Damone's being one of the most famous but I think it was an instrumental version that made the charts. ( Not the version we hear on the Marilyn video )
