just did some research and although wikipedia claims the ar-15 was a .223 it turns out that the origianl rifle pattened by Eugene stoner was a .22 but later became the m16 cambered for .223 the rifle you have there shares very litle with the true ar-15 and is just a commercial designation for an m16
