GPS in Jordan

This is a live demo of my GPS system in Amman, going from 6th Circle (near Amrah hotel) to Sendibad gas station in Mecca street. GPS systems and maps are not yet available in Jordan. I managed to build a GPS system with my Dell Axim X51v PDA, a GlobalSat Bluetooth GPS receiver, and some customized maps for Jordan. Auto routing is available with audio commands in English and Arabic. The maps include over 5000 points of interest (POIs) for famous restaurants, gas stations, governmental establishments, hospitals, etc.

wow thats cool but what the cost to get a gps sys in there couse in the usa its between $80-$400 i mean they all work just a different in between like the brand name and size and commercial trucks and mp3 player ....etc, but let say an average one how much it will be, be the way love the vedio great job faris thanks

The video is rather old when there were not GPS products in the market and no commercial maps.

Now adays you can buy a GPS navigation system for your car for 200-500 JDs, like you said depending on the specs and brand.

You can get a GPS receiver only, like the one you see in the video, but this requires a PDA or laptop to display the maps.

Or you can get a PND (Google "Garmin Nuvi). Those have the GPS receiver and the display to show the maps. Those do not have Jordan maps (yet).

My advice to you, don't buy online try to get it with someone travelling to Jordan, cuz you need lots of approvals to clear it from customs.

i used this device in kuwait once,but i have heard that the gps doesn't work in jordan!! how did it work with you?and how much did it cost???and does it covers all jordan ?? or just amman? ma3lesh gazaztak bel as2eleh bas ana nawy ashtary wa7d !!! thanks alot

no it doesn't cover all jordan.. Amman and major roads only... but soon there will be a new release with full coverage of Jordan....
