You're allowed to savestate any time there's flying muncher platforms. Romhacks are designed with savestating in mind. It's not considered a cheat.

They all do different things, depending on how many "big" sprites there are, how many small ones, and so forth. The best option is to read the help file included with Lunar Magic, then try each one, and test it several times to see if any disappear while you are playing it.
