Historical reality programme. The Victorian farmers - Ruth Goodman, Alex Langlands and Peter Ginn - return to the Acton Scott estate in Shropshire to celebrate a traditional Victorian Christmas.

There's an enormous amount of farm work to be done on the estate in the lead-up to the festive season, including the hay harvest, to make food for the animals over winter. Having been thwarted last time by rain, the team anxiously monitor the weather.

Peter travels to the Royal Agricultural Society's annual show with sheep expert Richard Spencer to choose a new ram for the flock; back at the farm, Ruth makes mincemeat for the Christmas mince pies. She also prepares for the hoped-for hay harvest celebration with some essentials - bread and butter.

  • The fangirling is really creepy. Tedious too. Most people watch this for the interesting historical content not to drool over the fat bloke with the impressive man boobs (see Green valley ;)

  • just watching this series to view the actual content. I find it interesting. Yes Peter is quite nice. But that's really beside the point.

  • @peterginnsfanmanager Forgive me but not all of us are fawning over Peter like a bunch of teenage girls. Yes, he's cute, but I watch it for the entertainment value AND for the knowledge they ALL posses. Even the "awfully cackling" Ruth who happens to be my favorite. I would give a finger to be able to sit down with her and pick her brain.

  • In this episode, Peter Ginn reveals that he "grew up in Germany" yet he is of Scottish extraction. He is a very private person and is not inclined to reveal anything personal, so this nugget of information is a rare gift.

  • Watch the look on the face of the gorgeous Peter Ginn while the sheep expert is examing the rams balls !

Peter Ginn (the dark haired gorgeous one of the three) is the most watchable man on TV. WHEN will the dozey BBC realize that most people watch this program to see him. NOT the wise but awfully cackling Ruth Goodman.

  • @Imogen1885 She probably has a very active sex life

  • Why does Ruth find everything so hysterical? The only thing I dislike about this programme is her constant cackling.

  • Grazie!!!

  • Blech. Those nails do not seem like what you'd want for making butter.
