SWITZERLAND BANS MUSLIM PRAYER TOWERS

A Swiss referendum has illustrated the increasing global anxiety about Islam and has rocked the countrys image of religious tolerance.

The recent Swiss vote has overwhelmingly opposed further construction of mosque prayer towers (minarets) on Swiss soil.

The Swiss population is 7.5 million of which 400,000 are Muslims. The Swiss government is now obliged to draft a new law, which ultimately may challenge international human rights conventions.
