is the internet "real?"

according to a 2010 survey, more couples which married that year had met online than at clubs or social gatherings. people find love on the internet. people lose love on the internet. people build and lose fortunes on the internet. people commit suicide because of the internet. yet so many of us still believe the internet is separate from "real life." why?

people use the internet as means of escape from real life. I do this as well, whether if its being addicted to social networking, laughing at how stupid people are or playing video games. People think it isn't real life because ultimitly they want to be in a different world when using the internet, they need their own little worlds and own little universes such as the matrix to make themselve at peace

I think that the reason a lot of people see the internet as separate from real life is because so many people go online anonymously, they do not act the way they would act in "real life", they abandon the morality instilled in them in the "real world", where people know who they are and can shun them/confront them for their maladjusted, cruel or antisocial behavior. You don't see it that way because you do not anonymize yourself online. Therefore your relationship, friendships, videos etc. are u

On a more serious note,people are slowly beginning to take the Net too seriously and are treating it like their second lives,as if they enter an alternate reality when they log on.
