With 4.8 million subscribers in Japan alone, Fiber To The Home (FTTH) is the latest development in telecommunications networks. Optical Fiber is connected from the internet service provider directly to the home or office, consolidating services such as phone, television and internet into one communication medium. One of the main advantages of FTTH is that the system doesn't need external power sources or repeaters to transmit signals long distances, drastically reducing maintenance and ongoing costs for telecommunication companies.

  • with Powerbackup-systems(which are installed pre in the fibreboxes)... -.-

  • LOL! Earthquake in England, that'll be the day. But so will be the day when FTTH comes. Radio shuts down when masts topple and DJs leave of attack. In a disaster, every man for themself. Don't sit on your arse on your fiber connection watching youtube videos of daylight. Get in your bunker 100ft below the surface like me.

  • Optical fiber is also very suscesible to vibrations (in contrary to copper), the signal is disrupted by vibrations, and the conductor can even crack on a strong eartquake. That is what they do not tell. It is faster, but no miracle. In a disaster it is just as good or bad as copper connection. Radio is the best in case of a natural distater.

  • How can it be used in a natural disaster without power? the signals might go out but how will you reeieve them. Stupid.

  • Thank

  • Beautiful!

I'll be glad when this spreads state side.
