I just heard this on Radio 4 ("The Paper Round" series, Tony McCauly episode) and I thought it was Hazel O'Connor singing !
A bit more searching led me to this. Great song and interesting to find out that it wasn't released in Canada or the US because the political context of the song.
Apparently, it was written by Drafi Deutscher for Marcia Barrett when she was solo, but when she sang it with Boney M on tour is was so popular they added it to their second album.
Number 1 in Germany, UK 8.

er no thats the Republic of Ireland, Belfast is in Northern Ireland, which is a province of the UK.
Point taken but U2 recorded SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY which is about an event in Northern Ireland in the early 70s, i prefer this song.
