Mumbai Locals Rally Against Attacks

In the latest news from Mumbai, thousands of residents have come out into the streets to protest against the terrorist attacks. Let's take a look.

STORY:
Last week's attacks by Islamist militants killed more than 170 people here.

And today we have around ten thousand protesters, who have showed up at the Gateway of India.

This rally was organized by text messaging and through the Internet.

Many are here to vent their anger and frustration at the militants and the politicians who failed to prevent the attacks.

[Sangeeta, Mumbai Resident]:
"I just want to say wake up. If we don't do something now, we will never do anything. And to the politicians, what are you doing? After vote, you sit idle and return after five years with the old bundle of promises."

But some even believe that the problems are closer to home.

[Murarukumar Singh, Mumbai Resident]:
"You will always find that our own people including politicians, policemen and individuals support the outsiders. I believe that if our people will stop supporting militants then no one can attack us."

Mumbai has seen a slew of protests this week.

And it's largely the middle-class society that is becoming more vocal.

Text messages and increasing Internet communication is seeing a rise in feeling against Indian leaders.

Websites are spreading the word about demonstrations, while bloggers and social networking sites like Twitter Face book and Flickr are buzzing.
