Llechwedd Slate Quarry 1962.wmv

Llechwedd Slate Quarry/Mine in the 1960's showing the overhead electric powered locomotive The Coatition that had a similar sister loco the Eclipse. They were both converted from steamers, having had their boilers and cylinders removed and replaced by electric motors and gearboxes. The weather on the day of filming was extremely wet and misty as is typical of the area.

I saw one of these locomotives on my visit to Llechwedd a copule of years ago. It was missing its pantograph (and was in a rather dilapidated state), and I assumed at the time it was a diesel. Thanks for educating me with a fascinating video.

Thanks for showing I visited the Dinorwic Quarries in 1962 with my late father but unfortunately we didn't have a cine camera with us, but we did get some photographs..
