Barack Obama came to Raleigh, NC on 8/19/08 and gave a townhall at the Exposition Center on the state fairgrounds near NC State. This was the first question taken, and it came from a mother of a child who has been through more then anyone should have to bear. The question and discussion involved terminology when it comes to disabled people, specifically the term "retardation". The discussion also went on to include special education and opportunity for those who need it.

PS: I apologize for the distant shot. I was in the standing room only section and my digital camcorder was zoomed as much as it can be.

  • He has my vote. What we with disability have to do is come up with titles that works for people. Terminology does have difficulties. DISABLE, MEANS INABLE AND people keep thinking about inability. What do we do?

  • THANKS FOR POSTING THE VIDEO, I LOVE IT SO MUCH, THE WOMAN WHO PRESENTED THE ISSUE TO Obama, this very good.

  • Good for Barack Obama valuing all children as being special and wanting to do what he can to insure the federal government fully funds special education at the state level. Last election George Bush did not even address disabilties on his web site and he gave us no child left behind and then did not fund it at the state level as promised. We need Barack Obama and his values on Pennsylvania Ave. He walks the talk.

  • Thank you very much for providing this video.

I have an issue here where my son's home school district is not allowing my son to go to his home school. I am still fighting for his right as my son 10 year, with learning disability is impatiently waiting to start school. He was supposed to start school August 18. They want to place him somewhere else. His home school is providing more than most schools that I know of with special needs but refused my child.
