Concorde breaking the sound barrier

well actually most planes have smoke trails, they are usually just condensation. Imagine if it was Concorde though.

that was a sonic boom. When a plane fly trought the air it create waves in front of the plane and behind. When the plane fly a the speed of sound or faster, these waves are compressed together and they travel at the speed of sound as well. So this is the ''explosion'' you can hear when there is a sudden change in pressure, so the wave causes two booms, one when the pressure rise from the nose hits, and another when the tail passes and the pressure suddenly returns to normal.
