This film is about the current lack of availability of domestic
partner benefits for gay and lesbian employees at UAB. Domestic
partner benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance,
bereavement leave, and other systems and policies of support provided
by UAB to their employees and spouses. This lack of financial and
social support from the university has had negative effects on the UAB
GLBT community for years, and because of this a group of faculty and
staff organized to begin the arduous process of bringing visibility to
the issue of domestic partner benefits, the people that suffer without
them, and working towards policies that reflect the value of GLBT
employees.
It's good they are now offering DP benefits. I hope more places of employment will move beyond the Stone Age and offer equal benefits to heterosexual and gay and lesbian employees. No need to divide.

One of the reasons my partner and I did not consider UAB as a place of employment was because they offered us no benefits. Kudos for this bold move and hopefully someday we'll have the opportunity to go home again the Birmingham and work at UAB.

Awesome vid my sister from another mister. I think the bigotry behind the discrimination of this absolute bullshit and the kind of bronze age thinking that holds our society back from it's potential. I hope that this video can help push UAB into being an open University who can give PB to ANYONE! Keep up the good work
