The daily India-Pakistan Border Closing Ceremony at Wagah.
The Indian Border Guards are dressed in Karki with Red head-ware, the Pakistani Border Guards are dressed in Black with Black head-ware.
For foreigners wishing to see the Border Closing ceremony, the following notes may be useful:
* The Wagah Border is about 30km from Amritsar. Journey time in a car is about 30 minutes. Most Hotels can arrange a car to take you to the border and wait for you for the return trip.
* The border ceremony is always very popular - the crowd could easily be a couple of thousand people - every evening!
* Very Important - No bags are allowed in the ceremony area- this includes camera cases and ladies handbags!
* You will be searched by Security.
* No Polythene bags - India seems to have a downer on Polythene and you will see similar signs in most places.
* Cameras and video filming are allowed.
* Take your passport - this will be need for access to the reserved seating for foreigners. Note: A lot of "Locals" have a foreign passport!
* Entrance to the ceremony is free.
* Check with your hotel for actual border closing times - the gates are slammed shut at sunset and the ceremony starts about half an hour prior to that.
* Arrive as late as possible before the actual ceremony begins - you will then be seated nearest to the gates and lower down the seating. Seats are filled from the top of the stands first.
* You will get touts along the road leading to the border selling postcards and DVDs. The Border Security Force sell their own DVD at the border ceremony - proceeds to the Widows Benevolent Fund for Rs50 (~US $1) (November 2010 prices) - a bargain. It also contains lots of short videos of other locations of interest in and around the Amritsar area.
i seriously dont know whats going on, this seems more river dance than a military procession.
