  • @alfalfalf101 Actually, the real problem is that they aren't speaking in Irish accents. When Beckett translated the play from French, he translated Didi, Gogo and Lucky's voices into a Hiberno form of English and idioms, while Pozzo speaks in an Anglo or Anglo-Irish form. Beckett was very particular about the details of his works and insistent on his stage and set directions being respected. By ignoring Beckett's intention, this production, perforce, loses a whole layer of meaning.

  • @alfalfalf101 Northern accent? Public school northern maybe - hardly "Scouse." All three speak in similarly educated accents - the costumes have to do all the work to differentiate Pozzo from the rest. No complaints about the casting or the acting but I think some effort might have been made for McK and Rees to speak, if not in Irish accents, at least in evidently regional English/Welsh accents. But this is really a director issue, and criticism. The set (Haymarket) also all wrong for this play.

  • @Clairehl1 Clearly ian mckellen speaks with a northern accent, while roger rees' accent i by no means 'upper class'.

  • @cgavin1 its lovely

  • If Pozzo, Gogo and Didi all speak with the same upper class accents, haven't they missed out on a vital element of the design of the play???111

  • This is nauseatingly vile.

  • where can i find a recording of this play, btw this score for this preview sucks

  • lol gandalf what a legend

  • I think this is where Seinfeld got their 'waiting for a table' episode.
