A bright red ball is clearly visible in the eastern skyline of London In this recorded video footage. It resembles the setting or rising Sun at dawn or dusk, but the red ball seen in the video is NOT the Sun. (At the time when the video was recorded, the sun was very much in the south skyline. The moon was present in the eastern sky much higher than the red ball, but this is not clear from the video.)

While the video was being recorded the red ball was not seen by the camera operator or any of the other people present. It did not appear on the screen while the camera was recording. It was not visible to the naked eye at any time. It was not noticed until the clip was viewed for the first time immediately after recording had finished. The original purpose of the recording was simply to produce a brief clip showing the skyline from this viewpoint, zooming in on the prominent buildings of the City of London. By coincidence the red object was located in the area of skyline zoomed-in on during the recording.

The video was recorded in central London on Tuesday, 9 December 2008 at 14:24 GMT. The camera was a mobile phone, Sony Ericsson C902 (Cybershot) with factory default settings (all options set to Off/Auto/Normal). The video was recorded from a building on the east side of Leicester Square, facing east. The ball can be seen between the roof-tops of buildings on the eastern skyline. It appears to be stationary and spherical. It remains unidentified, and its size and distance are not known. There may be a hint of apparent anti-clockwise rotation around its vertical axis as the camera zooms-in, but this may be an artefact of the recording.

  • you should have shown the sun

  • I did show the Sun, see my follow-up videos. I can't show the Sun in the same video because it's behind me and the other side of the building.

  • I think it's funny that you mention the object wasn't seen until the footage was reviewed later; however, you can clearly here someone in the video ask, "What is that thing?". Also, why would anyone zoom in on an arbitrary area of the skyline? There was nothing there BUT the red sphere!

  • Looking east towards the gherkin from soho rules out it being the sun, but living in london I think a giant red ball over the city would have had people rushing to the windows by the million. I think it's a red light somewhere in the office being picked up out of focus by what is essentially a cheap lens.

  • Thats Nibiru

  • SPENCE.. London's burning

  • If it wasn't the sun then why did you stop filming?
