Globally, the international migration of people (especially the youth) has been of peculiar concern to policy makers. At the national level, concerns have been raised as to the migration of rural folks to the urban areas as well as the striking imbalances in the levels and pace of socio-economic development between rural areas and urban centres which promotes this phenomenon of rural-urban migration. Developing countries especially, tend to have stark dichotomy in the level and rate of development of their regions in terms of infrastructure, investment and job creation which attracts people at the disadvantaged regions to the advantaged ends. In Ghana, this dichotomy is exacerbated by the development imbalances between regions of the country. This work is aimed at bringing to bare the realities of the massive north-south migration in Ghana its effects on the north, the south and the country as a whole and the risks migrants encounter.
Interesting video....hope you do a longer version with more interviews. In-migration is common everywhere, China alone has seen about a billion in-migration from rural areas to the big cities to take menial jobs while creating congestion issues in the process. Out-migration from Ghana is even more fascinating...something that i have researched and thought about casting more light on......the grass is not always greener on the other side.
