"Can corpus linguistics tell us anything useful about language and gender?"
Corpus Linguistics is the use of large sets of (usually electronic) data generated from long-term surveys and collection. The analysis of this data enables language researchers to test ideas and patterns. Julie is an experienced researcher, writer and lecturer in linguistics who will give us a unique insight into her recent work - this is the sort oflecture usually only available at specialist university departments and we are very lucky to have her at Huish to talk about the latest trends in language and gender.
Marcus Barrett and the rest of the Huish Linguistic Society enjoyed a talk from Julie Blake about corpus linguistics and how this can relate to gender. This isn’t a full video because the ARCHOS was suffering with a bad headache.
