Over the May bank holiday, hundreds of hawksbill turtles came ashore on the beach at Bournemouth, England.

The life-size card models were there to raise awareness of the slaughter of endangered turtles, killed so their shells can be made into souvenirs for tourists.

The stunt was organized by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, to create publicity about the slaughter, and to warn holiday makers not to buy seemingly harmless combs, necklaces and other trinkets when they travel this year.

  • Turtles don't do anything to us. They eat, sleep, and help keep the balance of nature (Like every other animal). And yet we do so many bad things to them. I really like turtles. I'll be sad the day they go extinct. :'( Farewell old friend.

  • It's Gamera!!!!

  • What a fantastic idea

  • A fun way to raise awareness about a very serious subject -the mass killing of turtles for commodities.

  • this is brilliant

  • im so thick i would of thought they were real

  • Turtles look peaceful and why does scum go around killing them? To show that they are evil killers to the rest of the world! Leave the turtles alone in peace!
