My personal tour of the fabulous Fox Theater in Detroit Michigan. Dave Calendine gives the tour and aslo plays the Wurlitzer theater organ in its original 1928 installation.
@dynamic881964 i have uploaded more videos since now check them out. The master console was up on stage for a while, i got there with Dave the night before they were dropping the organ down for Xmass shows. I even got to play the organ which was cool, didnt get any video of that though :( that would have been proof of bragging rights but oh well, lol im not that good anyway.
@2010cheche the original carpet that was in the outer lobby was not part of the original plan in detroit, the carpet was layed out before opening in 28 because Fox didnt like the way the floor turned out so they covered it. Then during the restoration in 89 the carpet was lifted... and the floor was preserved in the outer lobby and they decided then to leave it uncovered.
If you ever travel to St. Louis go visit the Fabulous Fox Theatre there!! It's the twin to the Detroit Fab. Fox, except that the St. Louis Fabulous Fox Theatre is a stand alone theatre, and the lobby is uphill, the entire theatre is carpeted, and is a pretty amazing theatre!!!
Excellent ! Seems a shame we need passports because of a terrorist act in 2001 ! I agree, the Fox is rather a dark place, I was there right after the restoration was completed in the late 1980's early 1990's to see John Denver.
Sadly the organ was not operational at that time. Your videos were fascinating in that you showed more than most people get to see. . . ie: the "slave" console of the organ etc.
i have a new camera which takes hi-def video. And once my passport comes in im bringing a group over to see both the Fox and The Senate Theater home of the DTOS. So new videos are comming. Just a note.. that is ALL the lighting the theater has. Its a darkish theater.
