Are some of you serious? Why all the discourse about roles and vibrato? Just enjoy the music and the fact that a couple of boys are singing some damn beautiful music. "Critics are to music what pigeons are to statues."

The problem with having a boy and girl sing the entire role in Humperdinck's opera live is that it is a long opera and the Wagnerian orchestration that he uses would easily drown them out. I have a recording from the 70's with Eugen Hug singing Hansel that's nice. He was about 13, and the girl singing Gretel around 14, but since the girl was in fact a mature young lady, it sounded like a little boy singing with his babysitter at times!

@AML2000 The Regensburger Domspatzen (the worlds oldest boys choir) did perform this Opera the whole length in 1970. All child actors were boys and only the bitch and the parents were played by adult opera singers. Nethertheless, it was one of the best Hänsel&Gretel performance so far.

I so enjoy the tonal qualities of these two voices. this is my favorite performance.

Sorry, ich habe mich auf die Angaben im Abspann verlassen..Lautens kam mir auch sehr merkwürdig vor...Ich ändere es...Woher kennst du "Laurenz"? Singt er noch?
