Taylor Guitars co-founder Bob Taylor talks about the world's dwindling supply of ebony, the realities of ebony sourcing in Cameroon, and Taylor's efforts to preserve a sustainable supply for the entire musical instrument community. With the co-purchase of Crelicam, an ebony mill in Cameroon in 2011, Taylor began to develop a fresh framework for sustainable sourcing, one that blends socially responsible forestry with job training that will help Cameroonian communities support themselves and improve their living standards.

Proof that self-interested, private control of natural resources does more for preservation than government rules and regulation. Want to save the rainforests? Sell them to businessmen like Bob Taylor.

I honestly think that the colors look nice. Very natural looking.

Maybe you should just play a bunch and buy whatever sounds best, rather than making a decision based on prejudice

Bob's an exception to the rule - In Australia we mostly have rapacious billionaires who have the govt in their pockets, pay very little tax and give next to nothing to charity. Google 'Gina Reinhart'

Thank you for making the smarter choice in this matter, and understanding that we have done enough damage to our mother earth and what she can supply us. I am a fan of this decision!

The Taylor guitar is the most beautiful sounding guitar I have ever played. Once you go Taylor, you can never go back.

My god. I am so angry with myself for being upset about my Schecter's fretboard having a huge lighter streak in it. I thought it was just a bad cut that they shouldn't have used. Now I look at it and am so happy that it is imperfect, because that means that at least a few other trees did not need to die pointlessly for my guitar to have a good fretboard. Thank you, Taylor, for paving the way for this.

Bob is saying that there is no choice about it, the reality is that you will start seeing white streaks in ebony period, regardless of the sound degradation, it will simply have white streaks, If one really doesn't like that look, then they can dye it black. In fact, this has what has been done for a very long time.
