how do u do this on windows seven?

Thank you very much! This worked.

This is most unusual. Try this:
1. Start from this setting you mentioned "The desktop on the notebook and nothing on the TV ".
2. Open Windows Mobility Center by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Mobile PC, and then clicking Windows Mobility Center.
3. Then, on the External Display tile, click Connect display.
4. A "New Display Detected" dialog box should appear, and it would let you choose the mirror, extended, external only.

NO there isnt a monitor but on F8 it says "CRT/LCD" if i press that it shows the following three different types of display.
1) The desktop on notebook and extended one on the TV
2) The desktop on TV and nothing on the notebook
3) The desktop on the notebook and nothing on the TV

Okay, no problem. On your keyboard, the top row (F1 to F12), is there one of the keys with a picture that looks like a monitor? Mine is on F5, but different computers might place it on a different key.

Yeah. Sorry. I am using Vista. I have a DELL notebook. And no, i dont see any of those options.
-
Oh.... You're not using WIndows XP. You're on Windows Vista.
So far what you've done is correct. Are you using a notebook computer or a desktop? And what other items do you see when you right click on the desktop other than "personalize"? Do you have an option that starts with "Intel", "Nvidia" or "ATI"?

When I connected the TV, the mirror image came up. Then I went to desktop, right clicked, went to personalize, went to desktop setting, and clicked on the box that said extend desktop. Then it never goes back when I deselect it. The TV goes blank like it did in the video above for a moment.
Hi, would I be able to play a ppt slideshow on one monitor while using another application on the other monitor? For example working on word while a slide show (using auto slide timer in ppt) is running... With no interruption to any of the applications?
Thanks.

@foudoud Yes you can. If you turn off presenter helper, you should be able to return to your applications such as Word while the slide is running on its own.
