This is my first try at a powerlifting competition. I realize that my body type is not too suited (yet) for these events. At 6' 2" and at 270 lbs (I had to lose some weight for my class) I'm not exactly the powerlifting ideal. Anyways, it was a lot of fun. I didn't really know my max lifts for the squat or deadlift. I could of done more on the squat and the deadlift I should of been able to lock out at the end. I tore my right shoulder a month before this event (and didn't do bench for that time) so I'm happy with what I did. I found out the following week after the event that It was a 2 mm - 3 mm tear. It could of been worse but I'm slowly getting back in the swing of things. I'm guessing 6 to 8 months and hopefully I'll be benching normal again. But next time I'll actually do a proper "powerlifting stance" and I'll actually learn how to use my legs on the deadlift. Man, that deadlift is hard to watch. The form is the worst ever.

  • I came in 4th (weight class). The top three were very good and have competed for several years. It was a lot of fun even though everything was new to me. At that weight you are one strong guy. Keep it up.

  • since it was just amatuer did you get to choose the weight?

  • Ya, I didn't know what my max lifts were going into this event so I had to guess what I could lift. Prior to this I only knew that my max bench was 405. I never pushed myself that hard in squats or deadlifts before.
