Heres another nice mess they've gotten into!

This clip shows the climax to 'Nothing but trouble' a 1944 film starring Laurel & Hardy. After Stan & Ollie left the Hal Roach studios they worked for bigger companies such as MGM & 20th Century Fox, they did however have less influence in the films and gags. Most Laurel and Hardy fans would agree that the Hal Roach years were pure L&H at their very best as they had most input in the film-making particularly Stan Laurel who was the brains behind most of their funniest gags- Stan once said (about the later films) 'We had no say on those films, and it sure looked it'.

Still their later films are still very much enjoyable, simply because it's Laurel and Hardy and they will always be funny no matter who they're working for or what they're doing.

This particular scene is very funny, Stan and Ollie are told they must drop off the ledge of a high building to their death, but as you know with L&H nothing is simple.

-God Bless Them-
Hope it tickles you & please feel free to comment/add me ;)

  • @heatherwhite Fair Point :) I agree too, yeah they may seem less old style L&H but no matter when it was or which company it's still pure comedy gold I reckon xxxxx

  • 4 people are the ghosts of homicidal homosexuals that died from eating a pastry.

  • Dear Baxter, According to Mrs.Eleanore Keaton(Buster's Widow)..Mayer had no sense of humor and he hated comedy performers..he only cared about making money..no matter if the performers and craftspersons were abused and had their creativity stopped and ruined.

  • lol

  • A few things missing: the Hal Roach music to intensify the scene, a real foil for the boys such as Walter Long or Billy Gilbert, cleverer dialog. Then again, working for the "factories" such as MGM or FOX, their writers and directors were more interested in coming in under budget than creating classic comedy. Remember, Louis B. Mayer never thought that the Marx Bros. were funny either so what else could be expected as far as L&H were concerned?

  • I'm proud to say that I've never seen their 20th Century-Fox nor MGM films from the 1940s and I can see why!

  • 5:08 It looks like something from the three stooges. Did anybody notice?

  • these guys are pretty funny! have the appeared in anything else?
