Gun violence is common in the city of Rio de Janeiro, and hospital emergency rooms are overburdened with the influx of shooting victims.

Many of them get taken to the Getulio Vargas hospital, which is a block from one of the city's most violence slums.

  • I tired of this media. Those who badmouth Brazil have no idea. Before my first trip to Brazil (Sao Paulo & Rio), people told me to be very careful so when I got there I kept my eyes open. However, I walked everyday in downtown Sao Paulo and Rio and didn't see any crime or violence. In fact people were very friendly and I can't hardly wait to go back there. I love Brazil and the brazilian people are the best. I was treated better than in my own country :(

  • That's so sad about the police officer answering the cell phone. Makes me cry.

  • I meant to type.... but New Orleans is the homicide capital of the world.

  • @ApexIXMR what are you talking about? there's poverty in every country. Brazil may be #14 in homicide by the homicide capital of the world is New Orleans in USA, USA, USA. New Orleans has had the highest homicide rate in the world for the past decade, it only lost last year to Tijuana, Mexico because of the cartel drug wars (killings) going on there.
