Note to Leslie Stahl, that was the stupidest question I have heard, do you think G-d commanded the Jews to vote Democrat in the desert while they were wondering for 40 years? really? There are many Republican Jews. The republican party of today is what the democratic party was years ago the Dems have been hijacked by liberal racists who do not like JEWS or the state of Israel. Charity is good, if the giver can do so voluntarily, through private organizations. Government extorting private property to use as the tyrants see fit is not our Founding Theology. Having the government steal from working people to give to free loaders without sterilizing them is causing an excess of those challenged by gravity and by enterprise. First, a qualifier: I'm an observant (a.k.a. orthodox, others would call me "ultra-orthodox) Jew, and I (along with most of my peers) are social and fiscal conservatives. The typical Jewish liberals are those who vote Democrat b/c their parents voted Democrat. Then you have the "bagels and lox" Jews (as Politicsguy eloquently stated) who know nothing about Judaism or the true meaning or context of "Tikkun Olam". Unfortunately, the watered-down, liberal Jews make us all look bad.

@MrDetwaa Sadly, yes, most American Jews today are "Bagel and Lox" Jews. The small minority (about 15% at most) or Jews who are Orthodox are OVERWHELMINGLY Republican and Conservative. As a torah observant Jew I have far more more in common in terms of my values with many evangelical Christians than I have with the vast majority of American Jews

"Most Jews" refers only to most assimilated Jews. Most orthodox, traditional Jews are conservative and when it comes to politics, associate with the Republican party. Hardly any Orthodox Jews voted for Obama. And most of the Jews who voted for Obama are intermarried and only go to synagogue once a year, if at all.

"Repair the world?" That is why most people, including the Third Reich, hated the Jews, and many countries do to this day. They always meddle in other peoples affairs with the self-righteous idea that they truly knows what's best. That is the dangerous thing. If you want to repair the world go to Israel and take care. But don't go to Europe, Canada, Russia, etc. promote multiculturalism and other crap then not expect any resentment from natives.
