20th Century 2043 from 1973. I heard this all the time on WHVW in Hyde Park, NY when it first came out, but for years even locals would look at me like I had two heads when I mentioned it. Does anybody else remember this?

  • Hiya JR,

Thanks for posting this song. It's been so long I forgot what the flip side was. I didn't know they played that on WHVW. That was one of my first forays after the Original KNACK broke up. Most all of my current music is on Youtube (search: Michael Chain band).

  • @michaelchain Thanks for the comment. I was aware of the KNACK but never connected you to their records (no credits on 45's). The flip of this is "Michael Blue". The promo is identical to the stock single (and stereo to boot!).... so... did any one else play this? I think the info is usually on BMI statements but I could be wrong - I've never gotten enough airplay to generate one so I've never seen one! Thanks again - Joe

  • Hi Joe - The original Knack was on Capitol records and we broke up in 1969. I'm Aware, Time Waits For No One, Softly Softly, Pretty Daisy, the Spell, Banana Man, Freedom Now and Lady In the Window, were some of the KNACK singles. I was the leader/lead singer/writer of the group and most of those songs are posted on Youtube. As for airplay on Birthday, yes it did get that across the country.

  • I don't remember the song, but I DO remember that ditzy WHVW singing jingle, the one they played after just about every song (or before every song) in 1971- "WHVW, CHANNEL 95!"
