@cray0308 I feel that Gandhi had no impact on independence whatsoever. India and Pakistan got independence because the British were bankrupt at the end of the war and they could no longer afford to hold onto the subcontinent. I doubt that the British left because of angry soldiers - don't forget that in WW1 they lifted martial law in the Punjab and promised independence if our people would fight for them, but when the war ended they reinstated martial law and carried on as before.

@BunnyBambiBambi 17 million died due to famines caused by the taking of all India's resources. Hope we never forget the 2.5 million that sacrificed their lives for both war efforts. How do you think UK sustained the war efforts to begin for both wars? With whose resources? All the rice, raw jute, cotton goods, manganese, saltpetre, rubber, millions of tons of wheat (what caused the 17 million deaths to begin with) were provided from India.
