On the Inside | Sam Winchester

My third entry for the YNTV "Character Study" challenge.

Let me start by saying that I went through two other videos to get to this one. I thought this challenge would be a piece of cake, and it really wasn't. But I guess, third times the charm?

I decided to use Sam for this challenge because I hardly ever use Sam in videos and I felt that using him would be a 'challenge' since I'm not used to him. Which is sad because I love Sam! His character is very complex when you take a look at it, and one of the most dominant things about him as a character, is his craving to be normal. Which is why I chose this song for my video. I felt that it outlined Sam's life very well and the lyrics guided me throughout this, which was definately needed due to my unfamiliaraity. I also found that Sam has gone through a lot as well, and it's not just Dean whose so broken. Sam lost; his girlfriend, his mother, his father and for a short while, his brother. He feels guilty for basically, all of those deaths. I felt so ashamed to realize this now...this is what happens when your an obsessive Dean girl. So all in all, I am SO happy I chose Sam. I see him in a new light.

Basically, this video is saying to Sam that; sure, you can run away from your father and your brother and start a new life as someone 'normal.' But in the end, you can't lie to yourself. And you can't escape who you truly are on the inside. No matter what, hunting is in Sam's blood and no matter how far away he runs from it, it will always catch up to him, and he will always find his way back to hunting and who he truly is. That's why at the end, I showed him and his brother getting ready to travel and hunt together. Showing that he accepts who he is and is ready to face the world.

[JUDGE'S NOTE]
In case you don't know...

During Season 1, Sam left the hunting world and ran away from this father and brother to California to become a lawyer. He had a girlfriend, who he was planning to marry and start a new life away from hunting. But it didn't last long when his father went missing and his brother found Sam and told him they had to find their father together. He tried to run from what he was, but it came back to him. Throughout the seasons, Sam slowly becomes to feel comfortable in his own skin, accepting that maybe he just is a 'freak.'

I also wanna explain why I included Dean in some parts. It's mainly because I wanted to show the tug between what Sam wants and what his family wants. Dean representing the hunting life. So on the line "heads your gonna stay but it's tails so you can..." shows Sam walking out of his brother for (presumably) good. It symbolizes Sam walking out on hunting. (Dean kinda represents hunting in a way). And when Dean finds him again on "hide where your sure you won't be found" is showing how hunting finds his way back to Sam, no matter how far he hides.
