I didn't like the grapple beam in Super Metroid. So I deleted it.
Of course, I had to replace it with *something*...

A few random notes:
I DID essentially delete the grapple beam. Everything related to it was reprogrammed from scratch.
The messed up graphics from excessively fast motion were fixed.
There's still more stuff about the new grapple that I haven't shown off, of course. The basic controls have been shown off though.
There is another new ability shown as well in the second segment, it shouldn't be too hard to notice (now quit complaining, Lenophis).
The x-ray scope was also removed, but there's nothing more interesting to say about that.

  • whats the number about under the 'fishing line' icon? ive noticed it has a number everytime it latches onto something

oh and when are you planning on releasing the game?

  • Someone's already figured it out on M2K2 so...

That number is the length of the grapple beam. You can press up to extend it.

The game will be released when I'm done making it. Nobody's getting a more precise answer than that.

  • Can someone link me to an english version of snesedit? and is there a tutorial for it? (sry for triple post)

  • You can change the language in snesedit, it's F6 or something IIRC. A few things are mistranslated though, but I understand German so it still makes sense to me.

snesedit is a hex-editor. If you know how to use a hex-editor, you essentially know how to use snesedit. It's not going to magically enable you to hack games - that's still the task of the hacker.

  • lol that's cool. tell me how to make the grapple fish like that. I know it's somewhere in the enemy DNA, just what do you set it to?

  • Um. No. No it is not.

The programming for the grapple beam was done entirely using xkas and a text file - a 70 kB text file I wrote from scratch. Not a two byte pointer in SMILE. SMILE was only used to make the rooms you see in the movie.

This grapple beam is a custom made hack that will only be in Insanity, which won't be released till I'm done with it.

Incidentally, the Geemer's grapple pointer is F650. Which will crash in the original Super Metroid.
