Despite the myth of it not working with 64 bit releases of Linux, this video will work to disprove that old myth.

  • idk how to install it hahah root password and su nd stuff hha is the root password ur login passworD?

  • Huh? I have no idea what you just said.

  • i do not know how to install java on my linux unbuntu and what is the root password is it ur login password for ur account or is it diffrent?

  • Here is the easiest way possible. Simply use your mouse and copy/paste your this into a Terminal window.

    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

It will ask for your password, this is the same password you login into Ubuntu with. You're done. :)

  • There is now a native 64 bit Java. Same with Flash. Both are in testing. nspluginwrapper is going away by next year. Future 64 bit distros will be using the 64 bit plugins that don't require a wrapper.

  • Thanks for updating this. I have so many of these videos, they can get pretty dated fast.

Did not know Flash finally got true 64 bit compatibly? That is awesome!

  • Java 6u12 is now out. It has 64 bit support. The 64 bit java was a testing release. Now this is the final release.

  • The true plugin does work but some sites like imeem have problems. If I really need to see imeem I just run a windows firefox in Wine and it seems to work ok. However this 64 bit plugin should get better after time. We shall see when Flash 11 appears then we should see better 64 bit support.

  • It's very easy to install. All you need to do is uninstall the 32 bit flash and nspluginwrapper. You'll still need libflashsupport if you use pulse audio. Just download the flash alpha from Adobe, extract it and move that sucker to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

For Java I used a script. Couldn't have been any easier. All the Java stuff and OpenJDK must be removed before installing the script.

  • Thank you so much. I was able to get java to work.
