My dad recently passed away and I wanted to share a clip showing how I will always remember him. I remember the day my mom shot this 8mm home movie.

In the film, my dad is teaching my sister to ride a bike without training wheels for the first time. It's actually my yellow bike that she's riding, and I'm the other kid hamming it up. The yellow bike wasn't always yellow. When my dad got it, it was a rusty piece of junk. But that wasn't a problem for my dad. He took it all apart and refurbished it before sanding it down and painting it bright yellow to match the banana seat. After awhile I didn't like the yellow bike anymore. It rattled and it wasn't as cool as the bikes my friends had. Eventually I got a dirt bike, but then never rode it much. When I was rummaging around this weekend, I was hoping to find that yellow bike out in my dad's shed. But it's gone. I wish had that yellow bike back now--I would ride it all around and say, 'Hey, look what my dad did for me!'

We'll miss you dad. Thanks for everything you did for us.

  • What a beautiful memory of childhood. You were truly blessed with wonderful parents.

  • I found ths video while searching for Banana seat bicycles. Beautiful memory. My little girl has a Bratz, Banana seat bicycle, I bought it three years ago, and for Three years she waited to be big enough to fit it. Everytime I told her she got taller, she would run to the garage, or outside to see if she was big enough to touch the ground. Well three years later, she just turned seven, she tried it again, and her feet touch the ground. So she is very happy , and rides the bike everywhere now.
