I dunno, I think without that freedom to deviate and improvise in the animation, it risks falling into the same trap The Simpsons did, of losing its vitality and authenticity and becoming too pretty - Something which is, I think, anathema to comedy.
has the atmosphere of the comics as Yamazaki Kazuo-san has a double credit on this ep doin both the art continuity & scripting. that hamburger swallow reminds me of the japanese hotdog-eating champion Kobayashi..tho i have never seen actual footage of an event im sure its nuff to make anyone feel sick. amazing cuz he has a normal muscular build compared to his fatso American rival. last i heard he was in alot of legal troubles cuz he entered a contest which he didnt properly sign up for..glutton
4:28-4:32 - Good god, that's hideous. It's like looking at a Ralph Steadman illustration. They certainly took every possible measure to make sure that the character designs looked nothing like Akemi Takada's designs, and I think because of that the series suffered tremendously.
This episode was made long after "Beautiful Dreamer". In fact they had even already finished "Remember my Love" during this time. Actually, if you really want to see the predecessor to "Beautiful Dreamer", then you should check out episode 78: /watch?v=hp8_mWkStuw
