Josh Ames, 5th grade teacher at Baggett Elementary was named Dallas Rotary teacher of the month and was the first of dozens of students and teachers recognized at Tuesday's School Board meeting. Character in Action recognition was based on traits in generousity and Dugan's Katherine Leptrone, New Georgia Elementary's Heidi West, Poole's Kylie Pennington and Hiram High's Timnesha Hopkins were spotlighted as future leaders under the program. Teams like the PCHS Lady Patriot softball team were lauded as division champions and EPHS Lady Raider Cross Country team gained similar accolades. The 2011 fall players of the year were also applauded but the most impressive thing was the world recognized reading performance of Union Elementary students this past summer. I talked with Superintendent Cliff Cole about that special recognition.
