The Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader who is visiting Japan today, says the situation in Tibet needs to be reassessed by China and the international community.
The Dalai Lama spoke at a news conference in Chiba, Japan while in transit on his way to the United States.

[Dalai Lama, Tibet Spiritual Leader]:
"I think the weakness of Chinese government is not transparent; they always tell distorted information."

The Dalai Lama is asking the international community to reassess what is really happening.

[Dalai Lama, Tibet Spiritual Leader]:
"So now here again, I want to tell you, appeal you, please go to Tibet and study there what the situation truly is.

Earlier this month, China's official Xinhua news agency said two Tibetans had been sentenced to death for their role in riots in Tibet's regional capital of Lhasa last year.

They were found guilty of "starting fatal fires" during the riot, the report said, citing a court spokesman. Two others got suspended death sentences and another life imprisonment.

[Dalai Lama, Tibet Spiritual Leader]:
"If an individual or group of people who actually did some criminal things, the of course, nobody should support them. They should face the consequences of the law. But first the law must be a genuine law, not politically manipulated.

The Dalai Lama will be visiting Washington in autumn for political discussions with the U.S. government.

  • I cannot believe some of the ill informed and blatantly ignorant comments posted in response to this video!

Read your history and learn something of Tibetan Buddhism and you will find the truth.

Tibet was an independent nation UNTIL China realized that by overtaking Tibet they could shorten their trade routes and increase their wealth. Have you ever heard of the Silk Road?

Learn about what you are condemning - would you say the same things if China invaded Rome & it was the Pope speaking?

  • That fucking daLIE lama shitbag pisses me off. He is a hypocrit. Talking about law and order, when he himself had 3000 personal slaves, ruling Tibet like a GOD. I can't wait for the day the old shitbag dies.

  • Tibet has been part of China for 700 years, it only separated for about 2 decades after the last Chinese dynasty fell. And during those 2 decades, it was hell on earth. Over 95% of the population were slaves. The Dalai lama himself had 3000 PERSONAL slaves, and, he even got arms and legs for his birthday, along with slaves being sacrificed for him.

  • @longchun2008 There is no such thing as ''illegally coming to power'', idiot.

  • @ChinaKillsNunsLoots Before the Chinese liberated them, 90% of Tibetans were slaves. You don't know what you're talking about.

  • In Tibet today, there is no freedom of speech, no freedom of assembly, no freedom of press and no freedom of religion.

The Chinese government is determined to wipe out all traces of Tibetan national identity in an attempt to stifle any form of dissent among Tibetans

  • Perfection doesn't exist.

You always get the lucky and the unlucky.

The Chinese Communist Party is different from Western Democracies and both are different from Middle Eastern Monarchies.

    So what?

It is when people put a quantitative adjective next to each political system or to anything else that the troubles start.

Let's use more the word 'different' and refrain from publishing our own subjective judgements.

People die in every country. Let's put a stop to anti-Chinese propaganda.

  • The thing is its not the 1 billion people acting like a child. its the evil communists are overacting, which is a little shit the rest of chinese (include tibetans) want to get rid of . Actually, they are panic all the time since their illegality coming to power in china.

  • thats not how you salute

sounds like as if his constipated lol.... trying to shit the words out

  • the monks in Tibet should be greatly reduced.

so many stupid monks play full time, the common people feed them. this is unfair.

    Christianity is more reasonable.
