Believe me, the Balinese version is much tastier. I've tasted both versions. It could be because it's made from scratch and on a needed basis. Yummy.

There are many kinds of Gado Gado. The most popular one which I think the best, of course, is Jakarta Gado Gado. The one shown here is not a typical Gado Gado.

Lontong and Gado Gado are popular throughout Indonesia, particularly java. Lontong is the white rice cooked for a long time in banana leaf.
Gado gado is a dish made from lontong, vegetables and peanut sauce mixed together.
Most Indonesian food is very spicy and uses a lot of chilli not just Balinese food. Anyway Bali is part of Indonesia.
