  • @mrluistena "we all know the danger for that". What danger would that be? This is just superstition. I'm 70 at my next birthday and I am singing better than ever - not as good as these two guys of course - but good for me. A lot of singers get into trouble when thay have to sing contractually when they are ill. Chester Ludgen for example never recovered after the SF Opera over used him one year. And some singers just wear out young. It has nothing to do with different repertoire.

  • 2 legends

  • I guess, this is Placido's song and no one can sing lt like him!!! ...and his voice is still the most beautiful and colorful! Viva Placido!!!!

  • @31operafan I cannot agree. Domingo´s high register has never been outstanding. He decided at the beggining of his career to sing every role he finds in his way, and we all know the danger for that. In order to preserve a voice for a long time with all its skills and quality you ought to sing only what its good for you and concentrate in a solid tecnique. Then the results are huge. Tell Alfredo Kraus about it.

  • I certainly notice slight wavering in Domingo's voice now, but that is only because of age. Despite this, he can still sing well! :) I applaud him for his longetivity.

  • @mrluistena I think that's just a way for him to preserve his voice. This has given him the ability to have such an astoundingly long career.

  • @31operafan I have already listened to old recording with Domingo transposing operas down before the age of 35. He is done it throughout his career.

  • Pavarotti retired at 70, but Domingo apparently doesn't want to retire yet! I think Domingo started transposing his songs by the time he reached his 60s, when he realized he could not hit high notes like he used to. I believe this will let him keep singing until he is well in his mid-70s. But we never know.

  • Amazing, considering not just their years, but their long operatic careers. Those voices have PERFORMED for decades. Greatness remains great.
