The Suns of Power design team from California Polytechnic State University, Mechanical Engineering Department, work on their senior project: design, analyze, build, test and operate a solar thermal electric generator that is capable of producing at least 200 W of usable electricity over the course of 1 hour. This time-lapse video shows the teams working on resurfacing the mirror surface to an old parabolic trough collector that will be used in the project.

  • This video is showing us removing the old mirror surface. Because we are removing a clear film and a layer of reflective film from sheet metal, the before and after appearance of the mirror is virtually indistinguishable from one another. We are going back and forth to refill containers of acetone, which was needed to clean of the adhesive between the mirror surface and the sheet metal. There was music on the original version of this video; however, the audio failed to upload onto youtube.

  • And don't worry; we realize there is no point to this video.
