A clip from a 2005 performance of traditional Anatolian songs at Princeton's Cafe Improv. The song is Mastika, Mastika which is of Gypsy (Tzigan) origin, and the rhythm is a 9 beat pattern known as "aksak," indicating the off-beat feel. Similar patterns are found throughout the region.

  • Awesome music! I would love to get a real Oud. I have a darbouka though. I simply love the sound of it. By the way, this performance was on my birthday!

  • I thoroughly enjoyed this. Very impressive in terms of expression, tonal clarity and rhythm. I'm hooked. Thanks.
